Yazali authorities in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Subansiri district have found a unique way to increase the Covid-19 vaccine coverage.

In an effort to inoculate more people, 20 kilograms of rice are being provided to those receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

Yazali circle officer Tashi Wangchuk Thongdok’s idea of providing rice to the beneficiaries has become an instant crowd puller, with more than 50 people turning up for vaccination at the designated centres on the day the initiative was introduced.

However, the offer of rice is only those above 45 years of age who receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Lower Subansiri district administration along with district health officials has been working hard to improve the vaccination coverage in the district.

A lack of awareness together with misconceptions regarding the vaccine has prevented many from getting themselves inoculated against the novel coronavirus.

“Vaccination is the only way to protect ourselves from Covid-19. We are glad that the idea of offering rice in return for getting vaccinated has worked and many people  have come forward to receive the vaccine,” said Tashi Wangchuk Thongdok.
