Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh’s Capital Police on Thursday said an internal inquiry had found allegations against police personnel in connection with the arrest of anti-drug activist Gumin Mize to be “baseless, incorrect and fictitious.”

The inquiry was ordered after allegations surfaced through social media posts, public briefings and press statements following Mize’s arrest on May 20 in connection with Bihpuria Police Station Case No. 72/2026 in Assam, registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

Among the allegations were claims that the Officer-in-Charge of Itanagar Police Station had instructed an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Assam’s Lakhimpur district to assault Mize while he was in Assam Police custody. Other allegations accused Itanagar Police of transporting Mize’s vehicle to Bihpuria and concealing or withholding his arms licence.

Capital Police said the inquiry, ordered by the Superintendent of Police (SP), Capital, on May 26, involved examination of witnesses, CCTV footage, digital evidence and other documentary and technical materials.

According to the findings, no evidence was found to support the allegations against the Officer-in-Charge of Itanagar Police Station, the police team involved in the arrest or any other Arunachal Pradesh Police personnel.

Police said SP Capital personally briefed Mize on Wednesday regarding the findings and presented him with the evidence gathered during the inquiry. According to the statement, Mize expressed satisfaction with the outcome.

The police also said Mize was advised to ensure that any action against drug-related or other unlawful activities is carried out within the legal framework.

Meanwhile, Capital Police said it had identified several social media posts and comments containing threats against police personnel, including alleged threats to attack Itanagar Police Station, assault the Officer-in-Charge, burn down his residence and harm members of his family.

The statement said some of the posts also contained direct and indirect death threats. Police said the fake social media accounts involved had been identified, the individuals behind them traced, and legal action initiated.

Capital Police urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified allegations or inflammatory content on social media and said any wrongdoing, whether by police personnel or members of the public, would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
