Arunachal Pradesh Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF), Wildlife and Biodiversity cum Chief Wildlife Warden Dr R Kemp accompanied by department officials on Sunday visited Borguli range of Daying Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary from Mebo side and took stock of the loss and damaged caused by mighty Siang River.

The PCCF was dismayed that a range office building with forester barak at Borguli was washed away in flash flood triggered by Siang River, while the watch tower erected on the left bank of the river has eroded.

The Divisional Forest Officer (WL) of Pasighat Tasang Taga appraised the PCCF on his visit about the loss and damages in the wildlife sanctuary triggered by the river.

He also placed a flood damage report (FDR) estimated to Rs 1.67 crore and requested him to manage sanction for renovation works.

The DFO also pleaded him to grant two speed boats for river route patrolling around the sanctuary.

The DFO further pleaded the PCCF to take prompt step for regularization of about a dozen contingency staffs serving in the wildlife division besides formulating an effective mechanism for protection of the wild beasts thriving in and around the wildlife sanctuary.

Located at about 15 km south-east from Pasighat Smart city, the wildlife sanctuary comprises numerous islands surrounded by courses of Siang and Sibiya rivers.

The sanctuary is considered as key factor for restoring ecological balance in the region, besides providing safety to the wild animals of Poba Reserve Forest in bordering Assam.

The sanctuary covers 190 sq km area of the erstwhile Lali Wildlife Sanctuary, which subsequently renamed as Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary in October, 1986.
