Dibrugarh: An active cadre of NSCN-K (Khango Konyak) surrendered to security forces with arms and ammunition in Arunachal Pradeshโs Tirap district on Tuesday (February 10).
The cadre has been identified as SS Lieutenant Wangkhu Lowang (32), son of Wangdiap Lowang, a resident of Moktowa village in Dadam, Tirap district.
According to reports, the NSCN cadre surrendered to Tirap Police, 44th Assam Rifles, and 36th Battalion CRPF, Khonsa.
One 7.65 mm pistol (made in Kachin, registered No. 4702) with one magazine and six rounds of 7.65 mm live ammunition were recovered from his possession.
This marks another step towards peace and stability in the district.
“We are in touch with many NSCN cadres, and they are showing willingness to surrender. The region has long faced insurgency, and now it is time to bring back peace,” said a senior police official.
NSCN-K (Khango Konyak) is a faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) led by Khango Konyak, which emerged after he split from the main NSCN-K group (originally led by S.S. Khaplang) around 2018โ2019 following leadership disputes.
This faction subsequently entered into a fresh ceasefire agreement with the Government of India in April 2019.
Recently, a hardcore insurgent of NSCN (Niki Sumi) surrendered to security forces in the Khonsa area of Arunachal Pradesh.
The surrendered individual was identified as Wangjong Wangsu (37), a self-styled Lieutenant of NSCN (Niki Sumi) and a resident of Longding district, Arunachal Pradesh.
