Guwahati: Relentless monsoon rains have left the remote border town of Parsi Parlo in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kumey district inundated, with the Kumey River breaching the danger level and cutting off road connectivity to the Indo-China border region.

Days of continuous heavy rainfall have caused widespread flooding across the district, submerging large parts of Parsi Parlo and affecting both public infrastructure and residential areas.

Officials said the Kumey River overflowed its banks after rising above the danger mark, flooding key government establishments, including the Inspection Bungalow and schools, along with several private homes.

Roads in multiple colonies and villages have also gone underwater, making them resemble flowing streams.

The incessant rainfall has further triggered landslides and severe soil erosion, inflicting significant damage on road networks. Several valley bridges have reportedly been washed away, disrupting transportation across the district.

Authorities confirmed that the only road linking Parsi Parlo to the district headquarters at Koloriang has been temporarily cut off, hampering the movement of residents, emergency responders and the supply of essential commodities.

With heavy rainfall expected to continue, the administration has appealed to residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions. Officials are closely monitoring the situation amid fears that further downpours could worsen flooding and lead to more landslides in the hilly district.

Kurung Kumey remains one of the worst-affected districts in the current spell of monsoon rains, which have triggered floods, landslides and major disruptions to road connectivity across several parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
