Doomdooma: An Indian Army Subedar was killed and two fellow soldiers sustained injuries after a military truck veered off a mountainous stretch of National Highway-13 and plunged into a deep gorge near Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district on Friday afternoon, reports Illustrated Daily News.

The fatal accident occurred at around 2 p.m. when a truck belonging to the 18 Sikh Light Infantry was travelling towards its unit with three Army personnel on board.

According to officials, the vehicle reportedly lost control while negotiating a steep stretch of the highway before crashing through the chain-link fence of the 30th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) campus and hurtling down the hillside.

The impact left the vehicle severely damaged, prompting an immediate rescue operation. The Rapid Rescue Team (RRT) of the 30th Battalion SSB rushed to the scene and successfully extricated the injured soldiers from the mangled truck before shifting them to nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment.

Officials said one injured soldier was referred to Bomdila District Hospital after receiving first aid, while the other two were taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Dirang.

Despite sustained medical efforts, Subedar Surendra Singh (name not officially confirmed) succumbed to his injuries at the Dirang CHC.

The two injured soldiers are undergoing treatment at Bomdila District Hospital and the Dirang CHC, where their condition has been reported to be stable.
