Dibrugarh: Ahead of Independence Day, four cadres of the banned militant outfit ULFA-I surrendered before the 44 Assam Rifles and Longding Police at Arunachal Pradesh’s Wakka on Friday.
The surrendered cadres have been identified as SS LC Ajay Asom (33), son of Bhadra Kanta Borah; SS LC Biplob Asom (31), son of Jonmaijoy Das; SS LC Monei Asom (28), son of Lalit Borah; and SS Pvt Bolin Asom (22), son of Biman Borah.
Security forces recovered four pistols and 17 live rounds of ammunition from the cadres.
The surrender of the cadres is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to bring insurgent members back into the mainstream.
“It’s a huge success for us as we have been trying to bring back young misguided youths who joined insurgent groups. Recently, many youths have returned to the mainstream and are living a dignified life,” an Assam Rifles official said.
