Arunachal Pradesh’s Itanagar Capital Complex deputy commissioner Himanshu Gupta on Thursday convened a meeting with candidates and election agents of Itanagar Assembly constituency towards ensuring peace and tranquility ahead of the May 23 counting of votes for the simultaneous elections held in April.

Capital Complex superintendent of police Tumme Amo, EAC Itanagar Hengo Basar, and EAC (Election) Choiki Dondup attended the meeting.

The deputy commissioner said that the voting on April 11 was peaceful. “Therefore, we should ensure that the counting is also done peacefully and there should not be any breakdown of law and order after the declaration of result,” he added.

He sought the cooperation of the candidates in ensuring peace and tranquillity post-result. He also appealed to the denizens of Capital Complex to cooperate with the administration in maintaining a conducive and peaceful atmosphere.

The superintendent of police sought their cooperation too.

The candidates and their agents extended their support and cooperation to the administration and assured to refrain from indulging in activities which may disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the Capital Complex.

They also stressed that during elections there was no violence and will definitely ensure that situation remains same on and after the counting day. The candidates said that they have asked all their supporters to maintain peace and tranquillity in the region.

Candidates Techi Kaso of JD(U) and Yumlam Achung of Congress, and election agents of BJP, JD(S) and NPP attended the meeting.
