Army soldier Jowkhum Gam Khasa, who was serving in Kashmir, died not in the valley but in a road mishap at Bordumsa in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.
Khasa died on Sunday evening at Bordumsa as he was hit by a dumper along the Trans -Arunachal High Way connecting Kharsang to Mahadebpur.

A resident of Dapkhu village in Bordumsa, Khasa was in his home town on leave.
The mortal remains of the soldier were accorded honour by the Army personnel of the Bordumsa unit on Monday.
“He was serving the Indian Army in Kashmir,” informed a local resident of Dapkhu village.

According to Army sources, seriously injured Jowkhum, who is the son of Ligo Gam Khasa, a gaon burha, was rushed to a hospital in Bordumsa immediately after the mishap but he succumbed to his injuries there.
“We attended the victim, coordinated with his family and explored all possibilities to provide treatment but could not save him,” lamented an Army officer.
The Amy officer said, “We paid tribute to the soldier and helped the aggrieved family by carrying the mortal remains to his home with military honour.”
Meanwhile, a relative of the deceased said Jowkhum along with a pillion rider was riding a bike towards Namsai but they were hit by a loaded dumper coming from the opposite direction near Gidding Tri-junction.
The loss of the soldier at his 20s was deeply mourned by the Singpho community and other people of the locality.
MLA Somlung Mossang conveyed deep condolence at the demise of the brave-heart.
“Khasa, an active soldier from Arunachal not only belongs to Bordumsa but to the entire country and the loss of his life is the loss of the nation,” said Mossang.
Ironically, the police are yet to identify the dumper and no one has been arrested in the case till the filing of this report.
The deceased is survived by his wife, two daughters and his parents.
The funeral will be conducted on Tuesday.
