The Itanagar Cycling Meet on Sunday organised its first Cross Country Uphill MTB race titled ‘Chimi Mountain Pass MTB Challenge’ at Itanagar.

In all, 8 cyclists from different parts of the state participated in the 8-km-long race (5 km steep climb).

Cyclist Donik Rimon (17), who clocked 1 hour, 3 minutes and 25.05 seconds, won the competition.

Rimon was followed closely by Kago Mobin (12) in the second position who stopped the clock at 1:13:12:25 while Rahul Mili (32) clocked 1:15:13:45 to win the third prize.

Ittu Gadi, who finished the race in 1 hour, 25 minutes and 34.49 seconds took home the ‘most promising rider’ prize.

Earlier the race that started from the police headquarters in Chimpu near here was flagged off by senior marathon runner and Dera Natung Government College associate professor, Dr Kago Gambo.

Ijum Gadi, the director of Itanagar Cycling Meet while appreciating the zeal and enthusiasm of the young cyclists stressed the need for conducting training for them.

Proper training will help them in preparing for bigger races which are across the country, Ijum said while appealing to all to support the initiative and take-up cycling for a fit body and a healthier environment.

He also thanked the sponsors Dr Dukhum Magu, Techi Anthony, Ige Kadu, Mari Basar and Dr Gambo for their support.
