In a bid to promote cycling among the denizens in Itanagar, the Itanagar Cycling Meet, the first cycling club of Itanagar on Sunday organised its first awareness cum joy ride in the city.

The riders of the club drove from the Yupia Junction to the Itanagar Monastery during which they spread awareness on the benefits of cycling among the locals they came across.

Pei Ijum Gadi, the founder of Itanagar Cycling Meet said the objectives of the club are to make Itanagar a cycling city, promote cycling sports, encourage young cyclists and to organize at least one cycling event of national standard in the state annually.

“Globally, cycling is regarded as one of the best modes of physical exercise. It is at the same time eco-friendly and generates zero pollution. Itanagar Cycling Meet also discourages honking. Hence we do not use horns on our bicycles,” Gadi said.

He said they would conduct such awareness cum joy rides on the first Sunday of every month.

Gadi has appealed all to join his club and be a part of the initiative.

He also requested the parents to start gifting their children a bicycle instead of smart phones and join their movement in making Itanagar a healthy city.
