In a bid to make Arunachal Pradesh a tourist friendly destination, the State’s police department is all set to launch its first unit of ‘Tourist Police’ on November 2.

“The unit which would be launched by Chief Minister Pema Khandu would provide tourist and visitors information on law, customs, culture and attractions in the local community,” DGP  SBK Singh said.

He added that a four-day workshop to train the police force has already started at the Police Training Centre in Banderdewa near here from Monday.

Distinguished faculty members from Rajiv Gandhi University and officials and officers from the state’s tourism department are imparting training to the unit.

DGP Singh said that during the workshop the participants would be sensitized about the issues and measures regarding visit of tourists covering various aspects like obtaining of inner line permits, medical assistance, transportation, accommodation, route direction, marketing, ticket availability, special permits concerning border areas, feasibility in respect of weather conditions etc.

“Arunachal Pradesh is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in India. There has been an exponential growth in tourist visits to the State and the same can be credited to its mesmerising scenery and abundant natural beauty. According the Tourist Police unit will ensure that the stay of the tourists is comfortable and hassle free,” Singh said.
