Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the 426.60 m long Pre Stressed Concrete Box Girder type Diffo Bridge over Diffo River at 654.950 km on Roing-Koronu-Paya Road in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. Dedicating the bridge to the nation, the minister praised the commendable work being done by Project Udayak, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in this region.
She appreciated completion of this prestigious bridge which would provide uninterrupted direct communication between Dibang Valley and Lohit Valley region of Eastern Arunachal Pradesh and an all-weather road to the soldiers securing our frontiers along the Indo-China border
Lieutenant General Harpal Singh, Director General, Border Roads, explained the rigours/hurdles faced by BRO in tough working conditions in an almost inhospitable terrain facing turbulent flash floods and also pointed out that the BRO has sacrificed numerous precious lives in discharging its duties across the length and breadth of the country.
Brigadier Rakshvir, Chief Engineer (P) Udayak conveyed his gratitude to the Defence Minister for sparing her valuable time for inauguration of the bridge, much to the joy of the local populace. Lieutenant General MM Naravane, GOC-in-C Eastern Command, Lieutenant General Rajeev Sirohi, GOC Spear Corps, Major General Rajendra Sachdev, GOC Dao Division and Bharat Khera, JS (Air, Ceremonials, BR) were also present on the occasion.
Sitharaman along with other dignitaries present interacted with the Army jawans and BRO personnel, after the dedication ceremony. The ceremony was also attended by Mohesh Chai, Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Agriculture and Horticulture, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, who praised the contribution of BRO in the development of the area.
