Arunachal Pradesh is going to host a paragliding festival to be held for the first time in the State at Lumdung of Pappu Valley in East Kameng district from November 17 to 19.
Informing this, the president of the Paragliding Association of Arunachal (PAA), Vijay Sonam, said that the event is aimed to generate awareness and interest among the youths of Arunachal Pradesh in paragliding.
Sonam further informed that several experienced pilots from across the country and abroad are expected to take part in the paragliding festival.
He also said that paragliding was included as a sports event in the just-concluded Asian Games, 2018 in Jakarta of Indonesia.
“Paragliding has also been recognized by the International Olympic Association as a sport, and it is expected to be an event in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” he added.
Earlier on Monday, former parliamentarian Tapir Gao launched the website of the Arunachal Paragliding Festival at a function in Itanagar.
While inaugurating the website, Gao and Sonam said that as the website is operational now interested pilots can register for participation in the paragliding festival.
The festival is being organized by the Paragliding Association of Arunachal in collaboration with the State departments of Youth Affairs and Tourism.
