Arunachal Pradesh BJP vice president Tame Phassang on Friday inaugurated a water supply project (potable water well) for the people of Chandranagar here.
He had funded the fully-equipped water well after the locals expressed resentment over scarcity of potable water in the area.
“This is not any political stunt but being the local leader, I have got many representations regarding scarcity of potable water from different locations of the Capital Complex. Taking note of their grievances I have tried my best to fund at least a dozen of water wells from Nirjuli to Itanagar,” Phassang said.
He said that the survey for the construction or digging of wells were being done for six months and after proper survey, the people decided to construct the well in a public place so that a majority can use the service.
“Besides water issues, there are grievances such as proper roads and electricity connectivity and I will extend all possible help to solve these within a stipulated time frame,” he added.
Making an appeal to the people to properly maintain the well, Phassang said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of providing potable water to all the households of the country by 2022 is a big challenge to states like Arunachal Pradesh due to topographical factors, but the present government is, however, leaving no stone unturned in accomplishing the target in the State.
Extending gratitude to Phassang, local resident Tai Sika said that the potable water well will help at least 30 households of the area who were facing water scarcity for many years.
“Earlier, the denizens were using water from the river, which is contaminated and a health hazard,” he added.
“The public well will definitely help the people, especially the women who used to trek to the riverside for washing and for collecting drinking water. We are happy that dozens of such well are being constructed and ready in various part of the Capital Complex,” a woman of the area said.
