Guwahati: The Indian Army organised a motorcycle expedition from Mipi in Dibang Valley district to Meshai in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh to commemorate the Battle of Walong and pay tribute to the valiant soldiers of the war.

Guwahati-based Defence PRO Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said the motorcycle expedition, with participants from the Armed Forces and enthusiasts from Arunachal Pradesh, was flagged off on Friday by General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Dao Division Maj Gen VS Deshpande.
With two scheduled halts at Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district and Anjaw district’s Hayuliang, the biking expedition will culminate at the historic Walong War Memorial on November 11, 2024, he added.

The motorcycle expedition is in honour of the brave soldiers who fought for the nation in the Battle of Walong that took place during the Sino-Indian War of 1962.
During the challenging ride over the Mishmi Hills and astride the pristine Dibang Valley and Lohit Valley, the participants will cruise to commemorate the resoluteness of the people of Arunachal Pradesh who stood by their Armed Forces during the war, Lt Col Rawat said.
The route – tracing a historic path through the beautiful landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh – symbolises the Indian Army’s commitment to fostering unity and promoting adventure tourism in border areas, he added.

Each halt on the route will give an opportunity to the riders to connect with the local communities highlighting strength, resilience and solidarity that define the spirit of the region and promoting national integration, he said.
During the closing ceremony at the Walong War Memorial on November 11, the motorcyclists will pay homage to the brave hearts of Walong.
Lt Col Rawat said the expedition stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Battle of Walong and the Indian Army’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s heritage, values and connecting with the frontier villages of Arunachal Pradesh.
