Guwahati: The Assam police on Saturday apprehended an individual and seized several bundles of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) from his possession at the inter-state bus terminal (ISBT) in Betkuchi area of Guwahati, Assam.

Based on specific input, a team from the ISBT police outpost apprehended the individual – Hafiz Ali (27), a resident of Sonapur village under the jurisdiction of Gogamukh police station in Assam’s Dhemaji district – when he arrived at the bus terminal at 5 am, Guwahati Commissioner of Police Diganta Barah said.

During a search of his bag, the police team recovered a total of 12,116 pieces of Rs 500 denomination having a face value of Rs 60.58 lakh, he added.

During questioning, the accused revealed that he was likely to handover the fake currency notes to a party, he said.  

The police later brought the accused along with the seized fake currency notes to the ISBT police outpost, CP Barah added.

Meanwhile, the police have initiated an investigation in this regard.
