Arunachal Pradesh Congress president Takam Sanjoy on Saturday said that his party’s manifesto for the 2019 Assembly elections is not merely a document of proposals and vision for a better Arunachal, but a contractual agreement with the people for its implementation with full responsibility and accountability, if elected to power.
Sanjoy said this while addressing an election mega rally at the multipurpose stadium here.
“In the manifesto, the Congress has reiterated its commitment to the speedy and all-round development of Arunachal Pradesh without compromising the cultural ethos of various tribal communities of the State. However, this manifesto does not make tall promises like depositing of Rs 15 lakh to your bank accounts or creating 2 crore jobs every year,” Sanjoy said.
He further said that the strong bond between the people of Arunachal and the Congress is well manifested by and reflected in the political evolution of the state.
“Each step in the political journey of the State from Frontier Tract to NEFA to Union Territory to state bears the indelible footprints of the Congress represented by Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Since the time of the erstwhile NEFA, the Congress has followed the policy of tribal development enunciated by Nehru, which has served the tribal communities of Arunachal,” Sanjoy said.
He added that the Congress stands for protecting the unique culture and lifestyle of the indigenous tribal people and providing statutory safeguards to protect their inalienable rights on land not only in Arunachal Pradesh but rest of India too.
CLP leader Takam Pario, Bollywood actor and star campaigner Asrani, the party’s candidates for Pasighat East and West seats Bosiram Siram and Ninon Ering respectively also addressed the gathering.
