An Assam Congress Legislature Party (ACLP) delegation on Monday called on President Ram Nath Kovind and submitted a memorandum accusing political interference in NRC updating process.

“Today me along with ACLP members submitted a memorandum regarding the discrepancies in the verification process of the NRC to Hon’ble President Ram Nath Kovind ji,” Tarun Gogoi said.

The 17-member Assam Congress delegation member also includes Congress MP Susmita Dev.

“In the memorandum we have told about political interference on the state NRC Authority at the final stage of preparing the NRC list,” Assam Congress President Ripun Bora said.

President Kobind is believed to have told the delegation that he will look into the matter.

The CLP delegation will meet Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Registrar General of India Sailesh over the NRC issue on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, senior officials in the home ministry have reviewed the law and order situation of the state. In the meeting, according to the sources, officials have discussed the issue about proper use of social media ahead of the draft NRC publication.

“Use of social media also assumes significance as far as maintaining law and order situation is concerned,” a senior official privy to the meeting said.
