The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Thursday launched its state-wide sanitation and hygiene awareness campaign – “Be Clean, Be Healthy” starting with the Government Higher Secondary School here.
The campaign was flagged off by Capital Complex superintendent of police Harsh Vardhan.
Addressing the students, teachers and locals of the area gathered in hundreds, SP Vardhan said, “Public hygiene and sanitation is required for living a healthy life and spreading awareness on the same should be the top priority of every citizen.”
The SP also drew the attention of the students towards social goals and need for social understanding to be inculcated and advised them to work hard to achieve their goals.
The SP further lauded the AAPSU for coming up with the sanitation and hygiene awareness initiative and assured all out support from his end.
AAPSU president, Hawa Bagang, appealed to the students, especially boys to stop entertaining malicious student unions who use them only for their benefits.
“These vested unions will manipulate your minds and waste your time for their vested interests. Rather focus on your time on curriculum,” he said.
Bagang also informed the gathering that the Union would apprise the government to solve the water scarcity problem of the school and further advised the school committee to initiate social service for the students in the school campus.
AAPSU general secretary, Tobom Dai, in his deliberation highlighted the objectives of the campaign and called upon the students to spread awareness on it.
He also asked the students to keep themselves clean and healthy at all times.
Taking opportunity, Dai informed that the campaign is one of the education and health movements spearheaded by the Union and appealed to the students to continue keeping the surroundings of their school and home clean for a conducive environment.
The AAPSU members later handed over water filters, dustbins and other sanitation articles for the school, which was received by its vice principal.
As part of the flag off ceremony, the AAPSU executive members along with the staff and students of the school cleaned the surrounding.
The AAPSU thanked the school committee, police department and fire brigade team that assisted them with water in the course of the campaign.
