In a suspected case of love affair turning soar, a 27-year-old youth has been apprehended by Tangla Police at Tangla in Udalguri district on Thursday night on charges of raping a 19-year-old girl.
The victim girl, who became pregnant allegedly following physical relationship with the arrested youth, filed an FIR alleging that the youth, identified as Jyoti Prasad Borah alias Prasad, a chauffeur by profession and a native of Shareng Chuburi village under Mangaldai Police Station in Darrang district, had developed an illicit relationship with a promise to marry her.
The youth has been apprehended on the basis of a case (No 122/18) lodged at Tangla Police Station under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The youth, however, has denied the allegation.
Meanwhile, Tangla Police is waiting for the medical report of the victim girl and is investigating the matter.
The arrested youth was produced in Udalguri District Court on Friday.
It may be mentioned that one Samu Tapna of Udalguri in Assam was recently sentenced to five-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for “cheating and raping” his 19-year-old girlfriend.
A media report stated that the Additional Session Judges’ Court in Udalguri, upholding the judgement of a lower court, also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on Samu failing which he will have to undergo simple imprisonment for one month one-year RI.
The media report further stated that in January, 2017, the rape survivor had filed a police complaint after accused Samu confessed to his crime before a village court in Paneri area of Udalguri district. The victim had approached the police after Samu refused to marry her though she was “pregnant” by then.
