One believes it or not, girls belonging to families from poor financial background are being trafficked from Assam and sold in Rajasthan, each against Rs 30,000. This came to light when the mastermind of an inter-State trafficking racket confessed it before the Kharupetia Police in Darrang district during interrogation.
Thirty-two-year old Siddique Ali, a resident of Rowta Bagan village in Udalguri district, who was wanted by Kharupetia Police in connection with a human trafficking case registered in the police station, dramatically fell into the police trap in Orang on Tuesday.
When Ali was in a discussion with the poor parents of a teenage girl from Simluguri area Kharupetia Police Station about her marriage, the neighbours on suspicion caught him. On getting information, Kharupetia Police rushed to Orang and took him in their custody.
Kharupetia Police arrested Ali on charges of being involved in trafficking.
“During interrogation, Siddique Ali confessed how he had already trafficked three girls from poor families of the area giving false promises of marriages and then with the help of his counterparts in Rajasthan they sold each girl against Rs 30,000,” said sources.
The confessional statement has shocked even the investigating cops. Police have continued further investigation to nab the other criminals in the racket.
