CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has hinted that the provincial chiefs appointed by the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government will be replaced by the new government, The Kathmandu Post has reported.
Speaking to media persons upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) from Bangkok on Thursday, KP Sharma Oli said that the new government would take necessary decision regarding provincial chiefs at an appropriate time. Leader Oli had left for Bangkok on January 10 for a regular health check-up.
“We had proposed Nepali Congress leaders to appoint province chiefs in the first agreement, but they disregarded our proposal,” he said, adding, “We gave the go ahead to resolve the difficulties, they appointed the provincial chiefs. We will take necessary decision regarding provincial chiefs at a suitable time.”
The government on Wednesday appointed Govinda Subba as governor for Province 1, Ratneshwor Lal Kayastha for Province 2, Anuradha Koirala for Province 3, Baburam Kunwar for Province 4, Umakanta Jha for Province 5, Durga Keshar Khanal for Province 6 and Mohan Das Malla for Province 7.
Moreover, the former Prime Minister opined that the demonstrations going on in different districts of the country demanding provincial capital would be resolved through provincial assembly.
Saying that discussions are underway to merge the CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre), leader Oli said that the two parties would be unified soon.
