China has turned down calls for an independent international investigation into the origin of the coronavirus.
The deadly virus had already claimed over 190000 lives globally so far.
As per a BBC report, a diplomat Chen Wen said that the demands for inquiries about the origin of the virus are politically motivated and would distract China in fighting against the global pandemic.
“This is a politically motivated initiative. I think no-one can agree on this. It would serve nobody any good,” the report quoted Wen as saying.
Wen also claimed that China is putting all its efforts in fighting against COVID-19 and talking about an investigation about the origins on coronavirus will not only led to distraction of attention.
“We are fighting the virus at the moment, we are concentrating all our efforts on fighting against the virus. Why talk about an investigation into this? This will divert not only attention, it will divert resources,” she added.
US President Donald Trump had recently said that his administration was looking into reports that the novel coronavirus “escaped” from a Wuhan laboratory before it spread to the world.
“We’re looking at it, a lot of people are looking at it. It seems to make sense,” Trump had said earlier.
With the deadly coronavirus claiming a number of lives, there has been a lot of speculation on whether the virus originated from the Wuhan Institute of Virology or from Huanan Seafood Market.
However, the institute’s research director Yuan Zhiming dismissed the rumoursthat his institute is the original source of COVID-19.
“We know what kind of research is going at the institute and how the institute manages viruses and samples. There is no way that virus came from us,” he added.
