China on Friday recorded no new confirmed coronavirus cases on the mainland, the first time it had seen no daily rise in the number of cases since the pandemic began in Wuhan last year.

“On May 22, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported no new cases of confirmed infection and no deaths,” National Health Commission (NHC) of the People’s Republic of China said in a statement.

It said, however, there were two new suspected cases- an imported one in Shanghai and locally transmitted case in the northeastern province of Jilin.

New asymptomatic cases of the coronavirus fell to 28 from 35 a day earlier, the NHC said.

As per reports, China continues to see a rise in the number of imported coronavirus cases.

However, there has been a sharp decline in locally transmitted cases since March.

According to the NHC, 1,711 imported coronavirus were reported on the Chinese mainland on Friday.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the mainland is 82971 and the dead toll due to the deadly virus is 4634, the NHC said.

It also said that 78,258 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital so far.
