The third span of the Padma Bridge has been installed at the Jajira point of Shariatpur in Bangladesh, Dhaka Tribune reported.

“The 150-metre span was placed on Pillars 39 and 40 around 9am on Sunday,” said Humayun Kabir, assistant engineer of the project.

The positioning and adjustment of the span is underway. Humayun added that it might take six to seven hours to adjust the bearing positions.

The 6.15km bridge will stand over 42 pillars, which will bear the load of 41 spans.

The second span was installed on January 28, about four months after the first one was placed on October 7 last year. But the third span was installed only one and a half months later.

“The spans are placed after the work on the pillars is over,” Humayun further said, adding that the fourth span would hopefully be installed within a month.

With the third span placed, 450 metres of the bridge are now visible.
