Guwahati: A recent report by the Indian Express highlights a significant trend in Indian politics, revealing that a notable number of opposition politicians facing corruption probes have switched their allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014.
According to the report by The Indian Express, out of the 25 prominent politicians who made the switch, 23 have received reprieves in their corruption cases from investigative agencies.

These politicians hail from various opposition parties, including the Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena, Trinamool Congress, TDP, Samajwadi Party, and YSRCP.
Notably, six of these politicians joined the BJP in 2024, just ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections.
This revelation comes amidst accusations from the opposition of the “misuse” of investigation agencies by the Modi-led government.

The opposition has likened the BJP to a “washing machine,” insinuating that politicians accused of corruption find shelter within the party. However, the government has denied these allegations.
The report also sheds light on specific cases, including those of Ajit Pawar and Praful Patel from the NCP, whose cases were closed after they defected to the BJP.
