JORHAT: The Assam government has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to unveil a grand statue of legendary Ahom General Lachit Barphukan.

This was informed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday (February 15) while speaking to the media in Jorhat.

โ€œWe are honoured to extend an invitation to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to unveil a magnificent statue paying tribute to Bir Lachit Barphukan,โ€ said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Assam chief minister made this announcement after reviewing the preparations for the unveiling of the statue.

โ€œI visited Jorhat to personally oversee the preparations for these momentous events,โ€ CM Sarma said.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma further informed that the Assam government has also requested the Prime Minister to lay the foundation of Sivasagar medical college.

โ€œAdditionally, we have requested him to lay the foundation stone of Sivasagar medical college and participate in the Griha Pravesh ceremony for 5.5 lakh homes constructed under the PMAY,โ€ the Assam CM said.
