JORHAT: The Assam government has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to unveil a grand statue of legendary Ahom General Lachit Barphukan.

This was informed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday (February 15) while speaking to the media in Jorhat.

“We are honoured to extend an invitation to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to unveil a magnificent statue paying tribute to Bir Lachit Barphukan,” said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Assam chief minister made this announcement after reviewing the preparations for the unveiling of the statue.

“I visited Jorhat to personally oversee the preparations for these momentous events,” CM Sarma said.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma further informed that the Assam government has also requested the Prime Minister to lay the foundation of Sivasagar medical college.

“Additionally, we have requested him to lay the foundation stone of Sivasagar medical college and participate in the Griha Pravesh ceremony for 5.5 lakh homes constructed under the PMAY,” the Assam CM said.
