Guwahati: The third phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Assam will be held on Tuesday (May 7, 2024) with voters in four parliamentary constituencies will exercise their democratic rights to elect the new government.

A total of 47 candidates are vying for victory across the state’s four constituencies—Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri, and Kokrajhar (ST).

In this crucial phase, the Congress has fielded candidates in all four seats, while the BJP has nominated a candidate solely in Guwahati.

The BJP’s ally, AGP, has put forth candidates in Dhubri and Barpeta, with UPPL nominating in the Kokrajhar (ST) constituency.

Among the spotlight constituencies, Guwahati stands out, witnessing a fierce battle between Bijuli Kalita Medhi of the BJP and Congress candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami, with a total of 8 candidates in contention.

In Dhubri, a seat of significant interest, 13 candidates are competing, including perfume baron and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal and Rakibul Hussain of Congress.

Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency is set for a triangular contest between Monoranjan Talukdar of CPI (M), Phani Bhusan Choudhury of AGP, and Congress’ Deep Bayan, with 14 candidates in the fray.

Kokrajhar constituency presents another dynamic race, with key contenders such as Kampa Borgoyari of BPF, Garjan Mushahary of Congress, and UPPL’s Joyanta Basumatary.

A total of 12 candidates are vying for victory in the Kokrajhar (ST) Lok Sabha seat.
