Guwahati: Sutapa Chakraborty from Silchar in Assam has been named the winner of the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar for her collection of poems “Deraje Halud Ful, Gatajanma.”
Sutapa is the first recipient of this prestigious award from Assam for works in Bengali literature and the second from the Northeastern states.

The announcement has brought immense cheer to the literary community in the Northeast, with a total of six writers from the region being honoured with the Yuva Puraskar and Bal Sahitya Puraskar.

In Assamese literature, Nayanjyoti Sarma has been recognized with the Yuva Puraskar for his short story collection “Jal Kota Jui,” while Ranju Hazarika has won the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his novel “Bipanna Bismoi Khel.”

The Bodo language has also been celebrated, with Rani Baro receiving the Yuva Puraskar for her short story collection “Boro Saikhlum” and Virgin Jakoba Mochahary winning the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for her poetry collection “Boro Bhuma Boinibw.”

Manipur adds to the Northeast’s success with Waikhom Chingkheinganba being awarded the Yuva Puraskar for his poetry collection “Ashiba Turel.” Kshetrimayum Subadani continues Manipur’s winning streak by receiving the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for her novel “Malem Atiya.”
The Yuva Puraskar awardees will be presented with a casket containing an engraved copper plaque and a cheque of Rs 50,000 at a special function to be held later. The Bal Sahitya Puraskar ceremony will be held in New Delhi on November 14, where the awardees will receive a similar casket.
