Popular biotechnological company Gilead Science Inc. ’s Remdesivir drug has shown some positive signs in the treatment of patients infected by COVID-19.

According to a study published on Friday by the New England Journal of Medicine, 68 per cent of COVID-19 patients who have taken Remdesivir on a compassionate-use basis showed some form of improvement in their conditions.

As per the study, 61 patients were given one dose of Remdesivir and data on eight of them were not included.

Among the 53 patients whose data were analyzed, 36 of them showed some positive signs after taking the drug.

The new analysis includes patients in the United States, Europe, Canada and Japan.

The paper’s author called the findings “hopeful,” but cautioned that it is difficult to interpret the results since they do not include the comparison to a control group, as would be the case in a randomized clinical trial.
