Prasar Bharati on Friday reported that the World Health Organisation had “officially accepted” its mistake where it placed India in the ‘Community Transmission’ category.
The global health watchdog, in its COVID-19 ‘Situation Report’ published on Thursday, showed India to be in the stage of ‘Community Transmission’ of the pandemic.
WHO, however, later corrected the report and placed India in the ‘Cluster of cases’ category instead of the ‘Community transmission’ stage.
When Prasar Bharati contacted the WHO to know about the change in the status, a WHO official said to “refer to the corrected version” of the WHO Situation Report.
In a tweet, the Prasar Bharati said, “World Health Organisation (@WHO) ) today officially accepted that it committed a mistake when its #COVID19 ‘Situation Report’ for April 9 showed India to be in the stage of ‘Community Transmission’ of pandemic.#IndiaFightsCorona

Later, the report was CORRECTED to show India has ‘Cluster of cases’, not ‘Community transmission’. When PBNS contacted @WHO to inquire about this change of status, the WHO spokesperson said: “Please refer to CORRECTED,” it further tweeted.

The total number of COBID-19 positive cases in India on Friday was reported to be 6761 and the total number of deaths rose to 206.
There was a spike of 896 new cases and 37 deaths within 24 hours.
