A day after Assam minister of state for health, Pijush Hazarika attended two election meetings in Baksa district, an FIR has been filed against the minister.

The FIR has been lodged by one Tarun Dutta at the Panbazar police station in Guwahati alleging that the minister violated the social distancing norm at a time when the state is passing through a tough situation during the COVID19 pandemic.

The MoS for health attended two election meetings of the BJP – one at Nagrijuli and another at Goyabari – in Baksa district on Friday in presence of thousands of people, most of whom did not wear masks and the social distancing went for a toss.

The meetings were organized as part of the campaign for the ensuing Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.

After the meetings, videos of the meetings have gone viral on social media.

In the videos, people were seen sitting in close proximity to each other and they flouted the social distancing norms set by the government.

BTC is now currently under Assam governor’s rule.

The governor’s rule, imposed in BTC on April 27, would come to an end on October 27.

Elections to BTC were scheduled to be held on April 4, but the Assam State Election Commission deferred the polls indefinitely due to the COVID19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sought postponement of the BTC elections due to the pandemic.

Assam has so far registered 1,52,858 positive cases including 28,631 active cases.

The deadly disease has claimed a total of 540 positive patients while 1,23,684 patients have recovered from the disease.
