Assam’s Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita on Thursday said he pledges to donate Rs 1 crore from his MP fund for construction of a hospital to treat COVID-19 cases in Guwahati.
He also promised to donate an amount of Rs 10 lakh from his personal account to set up an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital located at Panbazar area in Guwahati.
“I would like to pledge Rs 1 Cr for construction of Hospital to treat #Corona patients in #Guwahati from MP Fund & additional Rs 10 Lakhs for construction of #ICU in MMC Hospital from my personal A/C ASAP,” Kalita tweeted.
Assam government has pulled up sleeves to fight coronavirus threat in the state tooth and nail.
The state government has decided to set up two large quarantine centres with a capacity to accommodate nearly 1,000 people each in Guwahati.
While one quarantine centre will come up in the Sarusajai Stadium, the other will be set up at the Nehru Stadium.
As per the announcement of Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, work has begun in full swing on Thursday morning to prepare these two quarantine centres.
Sarma personally oversaw the preparations at Sarusajai Stadium on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) and the Sonapur Hospital have been prepared as specific coronavirus treatment complexes.
The MMC Hospital has set up 150 beds for treatment of COVID-19 cases.
