The move comes a day after the Assam government has ordered every kind of organization in the state to stop using the biometric attendance system until March 31 as a precautionary measure against coronavirus.
According to a notification issued by the Additional Commissioner of GMC, all the employees of GMC had been asked to manually mark their attendance in the office registers until March 31, 2020.
“As a precautionary measure in order to avoid the risk of spreading of Corona Virus (COVID-19), all the branches/Zones/Divisions under Guwahati Municipal Corporation are directed to stop the use of Biometric Attendance System with immediate effect,” the notification stated.
“During this period, the attendance may be marked manually in the office registers and maintained by the Branch Officers. The order shall remain in force till March 31, 2020,” it added.
On March 8 the central government employees were also exempted from biometric attendance in the wake of coronavirus outbreak across the globe.
Although no positive case of coronavirus has been reported in Assam as of now, the state government has taken every possible step to ensure that no one is infected by the deadly disease.
On Sunday, the Assam government issued a directive to close all educational institutions, both government and private, cinema halls, swimming pools, and gyms in the state till March 29 as a precautionary measure to check community transmission of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
