Guwahati: Heavy rainfall on Sunday, April 19, led to widespread waterlogging across Guwahati, disrupting normal life.
Several areas, including Hatigaon, Six Mile, Rukminigaon, Anil Nagar, HengrabariโGaneshguri, and the Beltola-Survey Road stretch, were severely affected, with roads submerged, vehicles stranded, and water entering homes.
The situation turned fatal in Maligaon, where a woman, later identified as Payel Nath of Dharapur, was swept into a water-filled drain after falling into an open manhole. Her body was recovered approximately 400 metres from the site after a four-hour search operation.
She was found unconscious and rushed to Pandu FRU, where doctors declared her dead.
In view of the crisis, the Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration ordered closure of all schools and colleges within Guwahati Municipal Corporation limits on April 20.
Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel as monitoring continues.
