Guwahati: At least two people died after be ing hit by a train near the Narengi Railway Station in Guwahati, Assam on Saturday.
Locals who witnessed the incident said that while two people died on the spot, three others were severely injured.

The deceased were identified as Sahinur Islam and Hafizur Rahman. Both of them were residents of Goalpara, Assam and were living in Guwahati to work as daily wage labourers.

The injured were identified as Sahidul Islam, Saudagar Rahman and Johirul Islam. They were also engaged as labourers and belonged to Goalpara.

A local said that the five men were heading towards the hills in the Birkuchi area to carry out their day jobs. To reach the hills, they decided to walk through the railway tracks as that was a shorter way, the local said.

He further added that as they were walking, they were run over by the Tripura-Sundari Express.
Two of them died on the spot, three sustained severe injuries.
An investigation has been initiated in connection with the incident.
