Guwahati: Two suspected Bangladeshi citizens were detained by the police from the Guwahati Railway Station in Guwahati, Assam on Tuesday.

The police said that they searched a train heading to Tripura based on an input.

On checking the train, the police found two suspicious persons.

They later identified themselves as Suhag Gazi and Jahanara Begum, both residents of Bagerhat in Bangladesh.

On being questioned, the duo said that they entered India on May 7 this year through the international border in West Bengal.

They travelled to Bengaluru in Karnataka in search of jobs but as they failed to get any suitable opportunities, they were heading back to Bangladesh.

The police said that they found out that the two were planning to go back to Bangladesh through the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura.

An investigation has been initiated in connection with the incident.
