Guwahati: IAS officer Swapnil Paul on Monday took charge as the District Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan district following a recent administrative reshuffle ordered by the Assam government.
A 2018-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, Paul was earlier serving as District Commissioner of Tinsukia, where he handled a range of administrative, developmental and governance-related responsibilities in one of the state’s key districts.
As per the reshuffle order, outgoing Kamrup (Metropolitan) District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan has been transferred to Tinsukia, while Paul has been posted to head the metropolitan district that includes Assam’s capital city, Guwahati.
Officials said Paul’s appointment comes at a crucial time, with the rapidly expanding district facing increasing demands related to urban administration, infrastructure development and delivery of public services.
