Kakching town in Manipur has been declared the cleanest town (urban) in the Northeast, under the Swachh Bharat Mission conducted by Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
State Mission Director of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), N Gitkumar recently announced that Kakching will receive the cleanest town title.

Gitkumar also said that Kakching claimed the top spot in a study of 4041 towns across the country, with 164 towns from the northeast region.
The Union Ministry appointed an agency to study 4041 towns from January 4 this year, till March 10.
Mayang Imphal in Imphal West has also come out top in the Best City in Citizens’ Feedback in the Northeast under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

In the Best Innovation and Best Practise category, Biate town of Mizoram was adjudged the best while the Best City on Solid Waste Management went to Rangpo town in Sikkim.
