Come October, Meghalaya will greet visitors with Autumn festivals.
One such popular festivals is the Shillong Autumn Festival, which was revived last year after a gap of five years, by the new organizers ‘Opus Production.’
In this year’s Autumn too, this event, which is expected to pull visitors including tourists from within the country and abroad, will be held at the Water Sports Complex, Orchid Lake Resort on the bank of the scenic Umïam Lake on October 26 & 27.
The Opus Production made this announcement on Saturday.
The Opus Production took over in organizing the event from the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum.
One of the members of Opus Production, Alethea Lyngwa termed that festival as “Shillong’s most loved festival.”
The two-day event will feature Mumbai-based rock band, Indus Creed and an international DJ from the US, besides renowned local bands, Snow White and Summersalt.
The other highlights of the family-oriented event include water sports, kids’ play area, magic show, foodstalls, merchandise, Gen-X stage and camping facilities.
“Our aim is to make it the biggest festival. We should have a festival which is synonymous with the city and the state, and which will attract tourists and the entire local population should be part of it,” she said.
According to Alethea, the Meghalaya Tourism department would also partner and support the festival, this year.
The organizers have not finalised the budget yet, and they are hoping to get more sponsors to come forward in order to achieve the objecting of making the festival bigger and better this year.
Another member, Andreas War, said the target is to push the festival to a point where tourists could relate to the state and its people.
“The whole agenda is to attract more people from outside like Assam, West Bengal and other States,” Andreas said.
