This was informed during a hearing conducted by the division bench of the Meghalaya High Court on the public interest litigation (PIL) seeking its intervention on the matter on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the hearing was adjourned to September 12.
Notably, notice in this regard has also been served to the State Government.
In its order passed earlier, the bench said that the cleanliness of Umïam Lake is potentially affecting tourism and also causing health hazard to inhabitants of the State.
Earlier, a Meghalaya House committee report says due to rampant siltation and dumping of waste, the lake is filling up at an alarming rate and its lifespan may not extend beyond 2024.
