A view of the 'Chenehor Mehfil'. Northeast Now

With an aim to convey the message of peace and harmony among the people keeping in view the prevailing situation of Assam, Dalang, a Guwahati-based socio-cultural organization, has organised ‘Chenehor Mehfil’, a cultural programme on the holy occasion of Eid ul-Fitr at Lakshidhar Bora Kshetra in Guwahati on Sunday.

Talking to Northeast Now, Alakesh Das, a core committee member of Dalang said, “Our main aim of organising this programme is to spread brotherhood among the people of the State.”

Speaking about the gap among different ethnic groups in the State, Das said, “There is a need to bridge the gap among different ethnic communities of the State so that brotherhood, peace and harmony can sustain in the society.”

Informing more about the programme – Chenehor Mehfil – Das said, “Different unwanted incidents disturb our society very often. Therefore, it is an effort from us to contribute to erase the negativity from the minds of the people. We are trying to provide a common platform to exchange love and respect towards each other.”

Das further said, “We are inspired by one famous composition of the legendary singer, Dr Bhupen Hazarika, to name the title of the programme as – Chenehor Mehfil.”

A number of cultural troupes and individuals have performed during the event. A cultural team led by Faijur Rahman from Sipajhar in Darrang district performed jikir on the occasion while some others recited poems.

Earlier, former Gauhati University Vice Chancellor and Down Town University Vice Chancellor Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury inaugurated the programme and was present at the event as the chief guest.
