This Valentine’s Week, the Assam Food Safety Department has decided to skip the
boring health warnings and bureaucratic notices for something a lot more fun. They’ve launched a
new campaign using AI to turn the state’s most famous local ingredients into romantic couples,
proving that the best chemistry in Assam happens in the kitchen.
The campaign, which has quickly gone viral, gives names and love stories to classic food pairings.
You’ll find Rouroja (the Rohu fish) and OuKuwari (the Elephant Apple) depicted as a royal couple,
representing the perfect mix of sweet and sour in a traditional Masor Tenga. Then there’s the
“soulmate” pairing of Bhat Garam Sarma (Hot Rice) and Amitawati Kharghoriya (Papaya Khar),
showing that true love is as steady and comforting as a home-cooked meal.
Other pairings include the cozy winter duo of Haanh Kumar (Duck Meat) and Kumura Kumari (Ash Gourd), and the more sophisticated, traditional match of Paro Jyoti Saikia (Pigeon Meat) and Koldil Rani Hazarika (Banana Flower). Even the humble Solraam (Sol fish) and Mulamati (Radish) get their own story, proving that opposites really do attract.
By using AI art to bring these ingredients to life, the department has found a clever way to celebrate Assamese heritage with a modern twist. It’s a sweet reminder that you don’t necessarily need a fancy date to celebrate love this week—sometimes, a steaming plate of Khar-Bhat is all the romance you need.
