The Assam chapter of Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) is all set to present a new Assamese play on the English drama- ‘An Inspector Calls’ written by J B Priestly, on Wednesday.
The play will be staged at the Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir in Uzanbazar of Guwahati.

IPTA, Assam Chapter was founded in 1947 by Hemanga Biswas, Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Rabha and Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
Since then the IPTA, has been working for the development of humanity through culture.
It has produced a number of famous over the past many decades much to the delight and appreciation of theatre lovers of the State.

Wednesday’s presentation is a welcome move after a long hiatus.
‘An Inspector Calls’, one of Priestley’s best-known plays, has been hailed as a classic of mid-20th century English theatre.
The play has been adapted into Assamese by Natasurjya Phani Sarma.
The three-act drama which takes place on a single night focuses on a prosperous upper middle-class family, who live in a comfortable home in a fictional town of the State.
The family is visited by a man calling himself Inspector Parasuram Kakoti, who questions the family about the suicide of a young working-class woman in her mid-twenties.
The play has an impressive cast comprising noted Assamese film actor Alok Nath along with Mrinal Das, Priyanka Sarma, Queen Hazarika, Hemanta Debnath, Sameer Jyoti and Jayanta Gogoi.
The play is directed by filmmaker Prodyut Kumar Deka.
Some of the other crew members include Namrata Datta (Art), Sudeepta Sarma Bharali (Music), Puna Kalita (Lights), Babi Chakrabarty (Make Up) and Dhanjit Das (Design).
Notably, entry to Wednesday’s presentation is free for all theatre lovers.
