Sikkim Human Resource Development and Sports Minister R B Subba on Wednesday attended the annual training camp of the 4th Sikkim Battalion, National cadet Corps (NCC) underway at the NCC training centre at Kamrang, Namchi.

The camp organized under the aegis of 4th Sikkim NCC Battalion is the first ever training camp for the cadets of South and West Sikkim districts.

The camp will continue till May 11 according to an official press release.

Minister R B Subba along with officials inspected the Kamrang NCC premises, visited the training area, oversaw various cadet activities and visited unit lines and offices in the premises of the training centre.

Addressing the gathering of NCC officials and trainers, HRD officials, principals from different schools and colleges and the participants, the Minister highlighted that the training will provide an opportunity for the cadets to experience camp life, outdoor activities and community living.

He also added that the camp will assist them to develop teamwork, self-confidence, self-reliance and dignity of labour which will help them in the long-run.

The Minister also informed the students that they will further get an opportunity to hone their skills in the national trekking camp that will take place in November.

Subba also updated them to prepare diligently for the National Defence Academy (NDA) examinations and urged them to have an ambitious approach in enhancing their life skills further.

He also underlined the numerous opportunities in the field of education available in Sikkim.

NCC official Lt Col Gulshan Chadha briefed about the training discipline and motto of the camp.

He underlined that during the course of the training, the cadets will be imparted with valuable training which will prepare the NCC cadets to do well in certificate examinations along with leadership qualities.

Additionally, he mentioned that these cadets are the youngest battalion that the Kamrang NCC battalion has ever had.

The Lt Col elucidated that lectures and demonstrations will be organized as a part of the training camp and that the cadets will also participate in various community development programmes.

The objective of the NCC training is to instil qualities such as patriotism and promote overall personality of the cadets, he opined.

Officiating CO DS Dahiya was also present during the minister’s visit.
