MUSU had been demanding replacement of Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Pandey alleging that the Vice Chancellor has failed to take any initiative for the development of the institution, leaving the university in a paralysed state.

They have also launched an indefinite shutdown since May 31.

Meanwhile, MUSU functionaries condemned the attitude of the Vice Chancellor for making statement to the press only after their agitation entered more than half a month in the university campus.

Why he remained silent for so many days, they questioned.

On Monday, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla told the media that she wants to resolve the ongoing crisis in the Manipur University over the demand of replacement of the present Vice Chancellor Prof Prasad Pandey, in the interest of the public.

Earlier demanding ‘immediate intervention’ into the ongoing criris, the Manipur University Teachers’ Association had already staged a sit-in protest at its Canchipur campus near Imphal.

They also sought immediate intervention of University’s Visitor saying that MUTA stands for administrative transparency.

Meanwhile, the Manipur state council of CPI had already announced its support to the ongoing agitation launched by the MUSU while former opposition firebrand and man behind in establishing the University in eighties, O Joy also recently lambasted Vice Chancellor Prof Pandey for hampering the academic atmosphere of Manipur University and creating chaos in the relationship between the university and student’s community.

Besides students, they also charged that Vice Chancellor is always on tour spending extra money.

However, Prof Pandey had claimed that he has done all he can for the university after assuming charge about 18 months back.

He also claimed that Manipur University has become the first university in the country to open ‘smart class’ in every department.

Meanwhile, the indefinite shutdown of the varsity by the student community has crossed more than half a month, paralysing the normal functioning of all departments and centres.
