As preventive measures to contain the spread of coronavirus, the education department of the Assam government ordered that there shall not be any form of ‘Morning Assembly’ in the schools, colleges, and higher educational institutions.
This directive has been issued to the directors of higher education, secondary education and elementary education by the commissioner & secretary to the education department of Assam, Preetom Saikia.

Saikia said, “Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a deadly contagious virus that had affected a large section of the population globally”.
“There is an urgent need of immediate preventive interventions to contain its outbreak in our State,” said Saikia.

“Considering the urgency”, the commissioner & secretary to the state education department ordered the three directors to immediately issue necessary instructions to all the educational institutions in the state under their respective administrative jurisdictions.
As per the order “No exhibitions” shall be organised in the schools/colleges/higher educational institutions”.
“No excursions or exposure visits shall be undertaken by the schools/colleges/ higher educational institutions,” said the order.
“Awareness, sensitization of the students and enforcement of preventive interventions amongst the students by the teachers such as (a) frequent hand wash that should start with the commencement of classes (b) respiratory etiquettes [using handkerchief over mouth while coughing/sneezing], avoid gatherings,” it said.
“The heads of the institutions will ensure sanitation measures accordingly,” the order said.
The preventive measures issued in the public interest “should be made effective, immediately and shall remain in force till 15th April, 2020. Thereafter, on review of the scenario on the coronavirus affect. further instruction will be issued in this respect,” the commissioner & secretary said.
