The students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalya (JNV), Darrang at Udmari village, the only residential secondary level school in Darrang district, run by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India shone in both the Class X and Class XII CBSE Board examinations, results of which have been announced recently.

According to the school authority, in Class X examination with cent per cent pass and securing equal percentage with first division, the students of the Government-run school has set a record in its history. Out of the total 73 students, 46 passed with distinction while Jyotishman Sarma secured top position in the school with 93 per cent marks.

Prior to this, in the Class XII examination results also, the students of the school excelled as in Humanities (Arts) stream, 33 students secured distinction marks out of the total of 40 students appeared in the examination.

In Economics, average marks secured was 89.3 pc with two students each getting 99 marks. Similarly, in Geography subject, the average marks scored was 87 with one student securing 99.

The Arts stream recorded 100 pc pass and also 100 pc first division and 82.25 pc distinction.  Lakshmi Basumatary topped among the successful students with 93.2 pc marks.

Similarly, the Science stream also registered cent per cent pass while 12 students secured distinction marks. Ruhul Amin secured top position with 90.4 pc marks.

It is to be mentioned that last year, the school authority was under criticism following the dismal performance in Class XII examination with an average success percentage of only 74.63.

However, the academic atmosphere started changing with the change of the principal and young P Rajesh taking over charge as the new principal which could be evident from the results of the current year with a significant average rise of 23.87 pc in performance compared to that of the previous year.

The school with 98.50 pc average success rate recording an increase of 23.87 pc has been reportedly placed in the top position under Guwahati cluster of NVS Shillong region in terms of academic improvement.
