Debashree Saikia of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district of Assam has attained eighth position in the HSLC examination results announced by SEBA on Wednesday.

Debashree has brought glory not only for the people of Gaurisagar but also for Assam with her notable academic achievement.

She is a student of Sankardev Vidya Mandir, Gaurisagar. People of the town erupted with joy over her academic feat.

In fact, the school authorities said that they were “expecting a very good result from her and she lived up to the expectations”.

A brilliant student, Debashree got 96 in Assamese, 98 in English, 100 in General Mathematics, 98 in General Science, 98 in Social Science, and 100 in Advance Mathematics thus getting 97.8 per cent and an aggregate of 586.

Debashree was feted by several organisations on Monday including AASU as well as the MLA of Amguri constituency, Pradip Hazarika.

The topper said that she did not follow any “strict study routine” and used to study whenever she wished to.

She has a “burning desire” to do something “concrete” for the state in the future and aims to become a doctor and “serve humanity”.

“Apart from my parents, my teachers also motivated and helped me to get a rank in the HSLC examinations,” exults Debashree. She loves penning down poetry during her leisure hours.

A private institution, Sankardev Vidya Mandir was established in the year 2008. The other students of the institution have also fared very well in the HSLC examination.

Debashree is the daughter of Jadav Saikia and Avanti Saikia of Gaurisagar. Her father is a retired employee of Water Resources Department of Assam.
